We are looking for an experienced Overhead Line (OHL) Lead Design Engineer to join our growing team at Aureos. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of high-profile infrastructure projects across the UK, supporting the design management function and ensuring quality, compliance, and efficiency at every stage of the project lifecycle.
About the Role
As a Lead Design Engineer, you will assist the Design Manager in overseeing the production and coordination of OHL design activities across a range of infrastructure schemes. You’ll manage internal and external resources to ensure all design work meets time, cost, and quality targets, while aligning with relevant standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Manage and coordinate outsourced design teams and consultants
Support tender reviews and ensure design requirements are captured and met
Plan and monitor workload to meet project milestones and KPIs
Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure designs align with specifications
Take ownership of design deliverables, ensuring quality, compliance, and accuracy
Review and approve technical documents, drawings, and calculations
Conduct site visits and attend project meetings as required
Promote safety through design and contribute to CDM compliance
Drive on-time delivery and right-first-time principles across all design outputs
Skills & Experience
Minimum HNC/HND in Engineering; BEng/BSc desirable
Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (IEng/CEng) desirable
8+ years’ experience in Overhead Line (OHL) design
Proficient in PLS-CADD and PLS-Tower software
Experience with CAD tools is beneficial
Solid understanding of CDM 2015 and safety by design principles
Familiarity with transmission and distribution interfaces, including HV plant, cable, and civil design
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and general IT literacy
Able to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams and resolve design challenges
