Overview

1-year contract in Cornwall on either Northern Power Grid or Greater Grid Projects. An OHL (Overhead Line) Engineer is required to join a design consultancy to design OHL systems, including selection of structures, conductors and insulators, and to develop detailed engineering drawings, specifications and design documentation using AutoCAD and PLS-CADD. The role involves collaborating with stakeholders to integrate design requirements into project plans, conducting site surveys and assessments, performing technical calculations and analysis, ensuring designs are compliant, reviewing and approving design modifications, and providing support during construction plus quality checking throughout construction.

Location: St Austell, Cornwall (with travel elsewhere as required).

Contract type: 1-year contract; Inside IR35. Day rate: £500 - £550.

Responsibilities

  • Design OHL systems including selection of structures, conductors and insulators.
  • Develop detailed engineering drawings, specifications and design documentation using AutoCAD and PLS-CADD.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to integrate design requirements into project plans.
  • Conduct site surveys and assessments; perform technical calculations and analysis.
  • Ensure designs are compliant with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Review and approve design modifications; provide support during construction; perform quality checks throughout construction.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in overhead line engineering up to 400kV.
  • Experience on upgrading work projects, including utilization of High Temperature Low Sag conductors.
  • Knowledge of galloping studies, EMF and Field Effects Calculation, Wake effect, AC Interference for Gas pipelines.
  • Experience using PLS-CADD, POLE and/or TOWER (not all skills are essential).
