All applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) to Security Check (SC) level. This position also includes out-of-hours on-call support to ensure continuous service excellence.
Your future duties and responsibilities
As a Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining the platform and infrastructure components of the DevSecOps/PlatOps environments across the Continuous Improvement Teams. This includes configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting the underlying systems to support software development activities and the smooth running of the production applications.
You will ensure the scalability, availability, and reliability of the infrastructure supporting software delivery pipelines, working across the teams to triage, resolve and continuously improve platform-related issues. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in enhancing and maintaining the platform operations environments (using a DevSecOps approach) to support efficient and agile software development across the Continuous Improvement Teams. This role is integral in implementing advanced shift-left testing approaches, maintaining the quality and reliability of core casework tools, and driving automation and process optimisation in collaboration with internal infrastructure teams.
Key Responsibilities:
• Infrastructure & Platform Management: Manage secure system configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Develop infrastructure for high availability, scalability, and resilience using cloud, container orchestration, and IaC. • Automation & Optimisation: Automate provisioning, deployment, and maintenance with CaC. • Reduce manual tasks, maintain automated remediation, and boost deployment efficiency. • Monitoring & Performance: Set up monitoring and alerting to ensure reliability and detect bottlenecks. Analyse metrics and logs to optimise performance and capacity. • Security & Compliance: Embed security best practices and ensure compliance. Manage identity/access controls and automate checks, compliance, and vulnerability scans in CI/CD. • Collaboration: Work with developers to meet app requirements, optimise CI/CD, and enable efficient deployments. Align with security to embed protection in development. • Incident Management: Proactively monitor platforms, resolve issues quickly, and use automated remediation where possible. • Continuous Improvement: Track trends in cloud, DevSecOps, and architecture to enhance efficiency. • Out-of-Hours Support: Join on-call rotation for production support.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
Key Competencies:
• Proven experience in platform engineering, SysOps, DevSecOps, or related roles. • Extensive expertise in Windows Server, configuring and optimising IIS to host and manage .NET applications, as well as with Windows Services. • Understanding of cloud platforms (e.g. Azure) or virtualised environments using vCloud and vSphere. • Experience with scripting languages (e.g. Python, PowerShell). • Ability to take ownership of and troubleshoot application platform issues, working with colleagues to identify root causes and resolve.
Ideal Competencies:
• Experience with Configuration as Code (CaC) tools (e.g. Ansible) for automation, as well as Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g. Terraform, ARM Templates) • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Azure DevOps, Jenkins), including automated deployments and updates using PowerShell or Ansible, and version control (Git) • Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace) • Knowledge of container orchestration (e.g. Docker, Docker Swarm) • Understanding of security best practices in cloud and application hosting environments, along with experience in security automation (e.g. vulnerability scanners, static/dynamic code analysis) • Experience with security frameworks (e.g. OWASP, CIS Benchmarks) and risk management strategies
