With ambitious growth plans, they are now seeking a Beckhoff PLC / Controls specialist (other major PLC platforms considered) to help shape and drive their next of solutions.\n About the Role\nThis is a senior technical leadership role focused on the design, implementation, and integration of advanced controls and automation systems. You’ll be leading the development of PLC and control architectures across complex robotics and metrology projects, providing both technical depth and strategic direction.\nWorking closely with the wider engineering and project teams, you’ll set the standard for controls excellence – mentoring colleagues, guiding best practice, and acting as the company’s go-to expert for Beckhoff PLC and related technologies.
Expect a highly collaborative, customer-facing role where you’ll contribute directly to the innovation and delivery of multi-million-pound projects.\n Key Responsibilities\nLead the development and integration of advanced PLC and control systems (Beckhoff , but Siemens / Allen-Bradley / B&R considered)\nProvide technical leadership on automation architecture, safety, and communication protocols\nAct as subject-matter expert for controls and automation across all projects\nSupport and mentor engineers in PLC programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning\nEngage with customers to translate technical requirements into robust solutions\nCollaborate with mechanical, robotics, and software engineers to deliver fully integrated systems\nParticipate in project reviews, customer demonstrations, and site installations\nDrive continuous improvement in controls capability, including digital manufacturing workflows\nContribute to the design of future offerings such as dynamic inspection and plug-in solutions\n Qualifications & Experience\nEssential:\nDegree in Electrical / Controls / Automation Engineering (or equivalent experience)\nMinimum 4 years’ industrial experience with Beckhoff PLC (TwinCAT 3) or comparable platforms\nProven expertise in PLC programming, HMI, and motion control\nExperience commissioning automation systems in industrial environments\nCustomer-facing experience with the ability to present technical solutions confidently\nFull UK driving licence\nDesirable:\nExperience integrating PLC with robotics and metrology systems\nFamiliarity with safety standards and functional safety design (SIL, PL)\nBackground in aerospace, automotive, or precision manufacturing environments\nKnowledge of SPC, data-driven manufacturing, or Industry 4.0 concepts\n Competencies & Values\nNatural technical leader with a collaborative approach\nHands-on problem solver who thrives in challenging environments\nConfident communicator across technical and commercial discussions\nHigh levels of integrity and professional responsibility\nPassionate about innovation, precision, and quality delivery\n What’s On Offer\n£Attractive salary (depending on experience)\n4-day working week (Monday to Thursday, 32 hours)\nHybrid model\nSome Fridays may be required (balanced with shorter following weeks)\nFull training and onboarding support\nA key role in a flexible, forward-thinking company with low staff turnover and long-term vision\nThis is a rare opportunity to take ownership of controls technology at the heart of a growing, ambitious business – where your expertise will shape cutting-edge automation and metrology solutions.\nINTERESTED?
