About The Business Unit

We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on issues such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation to delivering infrastructure and maintaining it. Our planning, engineering, environmental, and management skills cover the whole project cycle.

We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.

Overview Of The Role

We are recruiting a Principal Bridge Engineer whose career has progressed into project management to join our team and support a growing workload of projects in the UK and globally. Our focus is on delivering innovative and economic solutions for clients. As a Principal Bridge Engineer, you will guide design, a section of the design, or act as a Technical Lead delivering technical excellence on projects. You will translate your structural knowledge into effective analyses and designs, work with industry codes (including Eurocodes), and lead teams in structural analysis and client meetings.

Candidate specification

Essential

  • Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng/MEng, MSc or equivalent)
  • Chartered Engineer (ICE / IStructE)
  • Practical design experience in bridges with ability to collaborate with local and global teams to deliver a consistent client experience
  • Ability to deliver high-quality design documentation including option appraisals, drawings, calculations, reports, specifications, and construction documentation
  • Experience managing project teams and providing technical leadership, including planning and management of physical and financial resources
  • Ability to apply safety, governance, and quality management principles
  • Experience in bridge analysis, design, and assessment with ability to oversee analyses
  • Commercial and financial knowledge to plan and monitor programmes, budgets, and resources
  • Experience in Health, Safety and Welfare, Safety by Design management
  • Experience in managing project teams and technical leadership

Desirable

  • Preparation and review of technical approval documentation for highway and rail structures
  • Experience in identifying, winning, and delivering projects including fee proposals and tender submissions
  • Experience of digital delivery tools and workflows (e.g., BIM, parametric design, automation)
  • Experience in analysis and design of complex bridges and structures in steel and concrete
  • Understanding of structural behaviours with ability to translate into effective structural analysis
