Principal Civil Engineer - Rail Infrastructure role at WSP in the UK & Ireland. Join our Rail Civil Engineering team with opportunities in Leeds, Manchester or London. Responsibilities

  • Join and contribute to the Rail Civil Engineering team based in Leeds, Manchester or London.
  • Progress towards Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) or enhance CRE capabilities.
  • Support team growth through bidding, line management and business improvement activities.
  • Develop technical outputs to high standards in line with WSP’s quality management system.
  • Resolve technical civil engineering issues and supervise production of drawings, reports and specifications with Engineers and Technicians to programme.
  • Scope and supervise surveys; undertake design calculations, risk assessments and related deliverables with support from teammates.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety and Welfare regulations and promote WSP’s SHEW culture.

  • Provide technical support to projects and mentor the design team to achieve deliverables for clients including Network Rail, Contractors, Developers & HS2.
  • Engage in technical, management and business activities with strong development opportunities.
  • Mentored CRE responsibilities on Rail projects and potential CRE/CEM roles depending on experience; work in a multidisciplinary environment in a Common Data Environment (CDE).
  • Possible line management responsibilities and coaching of junior staff, reporting to the line manager.

Required Demonstration

  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related subject accredited by the Engineering Council.
  • Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers or nearing Chartered status.
  • Experience delivering and managing all stages of multi-disciplinary engineering projects from studies to detailed design.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation and guidelines (e.g., Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, British/European Standards, Eurocodes, Codes of Practice).
