Overview

Prodrive, Banbury, England, United Kingdom. We are expanding our Chassis Design group and are seeking a Principal Design Engineer to support a growing portfolio of motorsport programmes. You will be CAD proficient in surface and solid modelling with an exceptional understanding of a complete vehicle. Ideally you will have experience in composite design and Siemens NX CAD software, but these are not essential.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribution towards project feasibility studies
  • Lead the design of sub-projects, managing junior team members as required
  • Concept design of major vehicle sub-systems and components such as bodywork, suspension, steering, body structure, driveline components and transmission ancillaries, as set out by design specification and budget constraints
  • Development of engineering calculations to support and inform design decisions
  • Refinement of design to final CAD assemblies, component design and associated detailed drawings, with validation through FEA and bench testing
  • Release of parts and assembly structures onto specific Bill of Materials
  • Ensuring Bills of Materials are accurate and up to date
  • Understanding the commercial impact of design on stock and project costs
  • Clear and concise communication with other departments, customers and suppliers to achieve project goals

Who we are looking for

Our ideal candidate will have extensive motorsport experience, ideally within a similar role with management/mentoring responsibility. You will be educated to degree level within Engineering and have experience designing major vehicle systems and components for different motorsport projects and have a genuine passion for what you do. A combination of mathematical analysis and logical thinking will underpin your decision-making processes.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree (or equivalent)
  • Experience designing major vehicle systems and components for motorsport projects
  • Strong mathematical analysis and logical thinking
  • Mentoring/leadership experience is a plus
