Join to apply for the Principal Drainage Engineer - London role at Jacobs

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

You’re a Chartered Civil Engineer with a strong technical background in drainage and flood mitigation design. You bring extensive experience in leading teams and managing the design of drainage systems for highways and urban environments. You’re confident in a client-facing role and have a proven track record of working with local councils, Lead Local Flood Authorities, and water authorities—particularly in the London and South East region.

You’re ready to take a lead role in developing and overseeing our growing workload with Essex and Kent Councils and Thames Water, acting as a trusted advisor and technical lead. You’re collaborative, proactive, and passionate about delivering high-quality, sustainable solutions. You’re also experienced in mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams across multiple offices.

This is a client-facing role, so you must be based in London or the surrounding area. You’ll be engaging directly with stakeholders, attending meetings, and representing Jacobs in the development of key regional infrastructure projects. The expectation is to be in the office or on client sites at least three days per week, with the flexibility to work from home on other days.

As Principal Drainage Engineer, you’ll take a technical leadership role in delivering drainage and flood mitigation design services across all stages of project development. You’ll work closely with our UK and global teams, lead client engagement, and help shape the future of our drainage capability in London and the South East.

You’ll be part of a team that has delivered award-winning work on HS2, recognised for excellence in design, sustainability, safety, and collaboration.
