About the Role

We are recruiting a Principal Drainage Engineer to strengthen our expanding civil engineering and transport planning practice. This is a great opportunity for someone with consultancy experience in drainage and infrastructure design who is ambitious to take on greater responsibility and develop within a supportive team environment.

You will take a leading role in the delivery of drainage and infrastructure projects across the UK, while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating closely with colleagues across disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of drainage strategies, SuDS, and Section 104 drainage designs.
• Contribute to Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) and technical approvals.
• Prepare detailed designs using Civil 3D, MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage/Causeway Flow, and AutoCAD.
• Oversee and review design work, ensuring technical quality and compliance with standards.
• Collaborate with clients, local authorities, and stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineers within the team.

Technical Skills & Experience

• Civil Engineering degree (or equivalent).
• Proven consultancy background in UK development and infrastructure schemes.
• Strong proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and ideally one or more drainage design software tools (InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow).
• Experience in Section 104, SuDS, drainage strategies, and FRAs.
• Knowledge of Section 38/278 highways design is desirable.
• Chartered or working towards Chartered status preferred.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
