Senior / Principal EC&I Engineer - Nuclear Sector\n\nA leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior or Principal Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer to join its Engineering Services team on a full-time basis. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact nuclear infrastructure projects across the UK, supporting clients through early-stage development to detailed design and delivery.\n\nRole OverviewThe successful candidate will bring strong EC&I expertise and proven leadership experience. You'll be responsible for managing a small team of engineers and designers, overseeing multiple projects, and ensuring technical excellence throughout the lifecycle-from FEED and ECI phases through to construction and commissioning.You'll work closely with clients, contractors, and supply chain partners, providing engineering support and ensuring compliance with nuclear sector standards and regulations.\n\nLocation & Travel\n\nIdeally based within commuting distance of Manchester\nOffice presence expected 1-2 days per week.\nOccasional site visits required (monthly or bi-monthly), depending on project needs.Key Responsibilities\n\nLead and manage a small technical team across multiple concurrent projects.\nApprove EC&I design deliverables and ensure alignment with client specifications.\nLiaise with stakeholders to coordinate design, procurement, and installation activities.\nSupport intrusive site surveys and define electrical modifications and upgrade requirements.\nPrepare electrical load schedules and identify control and telemetry needs.\nDevelop scopes of work for subcontractor installation packages.\nReview supplier quotations and conduct technical bid evaluations.\nEnsure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and directives (e.g.
ATEX, PED, EMC, Machinery Directive).\nContribute to sustainability goals, including Net Zero targets.Qualifications & Experience\n\nDegree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering (apprenticeships may be considered).\nChartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards).\nStrong understanding of EC&I design and installation practices within regulated sectors.\nExperience in nuclear or other high-integrity environments .\nFamiliarity with CE/UKCA marking and installation in potentially explosive atmospheres.\nKnowledge of UK legislation, HSE requirements, and risk management practices.\nExcellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.\nProactive, safety-conscious, and customer-focused mindset.Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
