Principal Electrical / Controls Engineer – Dorset Innovation Park, Dorchester | Permanent | Competitive Salary

TKMS ATLAS UK is looking for a Principal Electrical / Controls Engineer to drive the design and integration of electrical systems across our advanced sonar, submarine, and autonomous technology programmes. This role offers the opportunity to join a forward-thinking team delivering robust, safe, and compliant solutions in the defence and autonomous systems sector.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the design and development of electrical systems for complex maritime products
  • Defining architectures, selecting components, and ensuring safety and EMC compliance
  • Producing and reviewing schematics, wiring diagrams, and cable assemblies
  • Supporting integration, testing, and commissioning activities
  • Conducting design reviews and maintaining documentation accuracy
  • Coaching and mentoring junior engineers to grow team capability
  • Collaborating with suppliers, customers, and multidisciplinary teams

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Strong knowledge of electrical system design, including power distribution and control systems
  • Experience with CAD tools and CE/UKCA directives
  • Familiarity with EMC, electrical safety, and industry standards
  • System-level integration and debugging experience
  • Plc, motor control, or automation knowledge (desirable)
  • Strong communicator, problem solver, and team player with leadership potential
