Overview

Principal Electrical Engineer - Hydropower (Energy) at Stantec. This role can be based anywhere in the UK. Stantec is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team and work on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions.

Stantec is working on many of the world’s largest, complex and most exciting hydropower projects. You will play a key role in all aspects of hydropower projects, from feasibility studies and concept design to construction and commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical engineering design of hydropower projects, including generators, control and instrumentation systems, protection, substations and transmission lines.
  • Perform design, model and analyse electrical and electronic systems to ensure project feasibility and compliance with industry standards.
  • Take line management responsibility for some team members, support business growth and strategy development, and own project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with the growing transmission and distribution business and engage in the design and delivery of significant grid upgrade projects including new transmission lines and substations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and collaborate with civil, mechanical, and other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated project designs.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and design engineers, and participate in technical workshops and design reviews.

Qualifications

  • Ideally Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with the IET, or working towards.
  • Experience with large rotating machines (generators or motors). Hydro and/or pumped storage hydro experience is highly desirable but not essential. Electrical experience in other sectors, particularly Energy and Water, is advantageous.
  • Proficient in producing and interpreting design drawings and documents, including single line diagrams, block diagrams, calculations for equipment sizing and fault ratings, load schedules, specifications, and reports. Familiar with collaborative reviews and design solutions.
  • Strong skills in presenting to clients and design engineers, and active participation in design discussions and workshops.
