Principal Electrical Engineer

Location: London

Reports to: Associate Director

Sectors: Critical Systems/Data Centres

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join our clients growing team. This role will play a key part in managing client relationships and supporting the continued development of the business. You will provide expert technical, design, and contract management support across the electrical engineering discipline, ensuring projects meet both technical requirements and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare specifications, drawings, and relevant contract documentation in line with project/client requirements.
• Ensure all designs meet applicable codes, standards, regulations, and internal quality procedures.
• Deliver mechanical or electrical engineering design services for building and infrastructure projects.
• Engage with clients and external design teams to facilitate successful project outcomes.
• Develop project budgets based on client specifications and monitor costs to align with financial and schedule targets.
• Manage scope and schedule changes through the Change Control Process, ensuring proper planning and cost control.
• Mentor and support junior engineers to aid professional growth and project delivery.
• Collaborate with other team members to manage resources effectively.
• Contribute to business development by identifying new opportunities and nurturing existing client relationships.
• Carry out additional duties as required in line with the role.

Health, Safety, and Compliance Responsibilities

• Demonstrate awareness of Health & Safety policies and procedures and their impact on yourself and others.
• Ensure all mandatory compliance training is completed on time.
• Report any accidents, incidents, or near misses in line with company policy.

Resource and Team Management

• Monitor and report on team resource allocation and usage.
• Support and develop direct reports where line management is applicable.
• Work collaboratively with other Principal Engineers to ensure quality and timely service delivery.

Qualifications and Training

• BSc/BEng or HND/HNC in a relevant engineering discipline
• Membership of MCIBSE, MIET, or similar (desirable)
• Chartered Engineer status (or actively working toward it)

Experience and Skills

• Extensive experience in complex MEP design across various building types
• Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
• Familiarity with design software such as Dialux and Amtech
• Strong technical knowledge and effective communication skills
• Solid understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks, codes, and standards relevant to the industry
