We’re proud to be supporting one of the UK’s most exciting clean-tech innovators in their search for a Principal Electrical Engineer. This mission-led company is developing a first-of-its-kind thermal energy storage system to help decarbonise industrial heat — one of the toughest climate challenges. Their product is innovative, sustainable, and scalable — offering a zero-carbon alternative to fossil fuel boilers for industrial users. If you're passionate about solving real engineering problems with measurable climate impact, this is a unique opportunity to shape a technology at the frontier of energy storage.
The Role This is a hands-on senior design role leading the company’s electrical engineering capability. You’ll take ownership of the design and specification of the core electrical systems within Caldera’s product — covering power distribution (typically 400 V AC / 2 MW), protection, control integration and component selection.
Your focus will be the development and optimisation of product-level electrical systems — translating engineering intent into robust, manufacturable, and field-ready solutions. You’ll work closely with mechanical, thermal and control engineers to ensure seamless integration across disciplines.
In addition to technical leadership, you’ll:
Mentor junior engineers Oversee key suppliers and subcontractors Guide external design partners on electrical system execution You’ll also have two direct reports supporting the product engineering effort:
A CAD Designer focused on system integration and internal layout A Commissioning & Installation Engineer who feeds site requirements back into product design and supports in-house commissioning processes What We’re Looking For A strong foundation in electrical engineering, ideally with experience in power systems, plant equipment, or complex product development Proven leadership at Senior or Principal level, including mentoring and managing subcontractors or design partners Ability to translate complex requirements into practical, real-world electrical designs Backgrounds in clean energy, HVAC, process equipment, or electrical systems for industrial applications would be highly transferable Skilled in first-principles design, with a collaborative, cross-disciplinary mindset Why Join?
