The purpose of this position is to lead railway systems safety activities on major rail projects within the UK and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate safety assurance activities on projects.
• Develop project-specific system safety strategies to ensure compliance with project processes.
• Coordinate with various disciplines within the organization; develop safety methodologies to meet project and client requirements.
• Manage all aspects of system safety compliance, risk analysis, safety products, and ensure qualified oversight.
• Coordinate system safety products, including hazard identification, safety cases, and system definitions.
• Conduct hazard identification workshops, HAZOPs, and other safety analyses.
• Manage hazard records and define risk acceptance principles to control hazards.
• Provide compliance evidence and collaborate with clients and assessing bodies for safety authorizations under relevant regulations.
• Ensure products and systems comply with applicable technical standards and specifications.
• Develop safety cases, manage safety processes, and perform reliability analyses.
• Lead reporting and documentation efforts, including hazard logs and assurance plans.
• Verify design and construction for safety and reliability.
• Lead capability performance and root cause analysis.
• Manage all safety assurance deliverables.
• Lead project issues and monitor key performance indicators.

What do we need from you

Essential:

• Extensive experience in rail engineering, including senior engineering roles.
• Proven experience in system safety assurance in rail projects.
• Knowledge of compliance with CSM, Interoperability, NTSNs, and railway standards.
• Understanding of Rail standards ROGS, CSM RA, TSIs/NTSNs, ENs, and TPG.
• Team management experience is advantageous.
• Willingness to mentor and develop team members.
• Excellent communication skills.

Must have the right to work in the UK.

Desirable:

• BSc or higher in engineering or related field.
• Chartered status or equivalent.
• Experience in infrastructure design, specification, and procurement.
• Knowledge of the rail environment.
