What you’ll be\ndoing:
Conducting\nProgrammable Elements Safety Engineering Activities, such as PHA,\nFTA and PSSA/SSA in support of the Combat System Design Safety\nJustification and Whole Boat Safety\nCase Determining the causes of:\nSystematic Programmable Elements Safety failures, Common cause\nanalysis Defining and monitoring Programmable\nElements Safety Requirements and compliance with CASS\nTOES Organising and contributing to\nHazard Identification workshops and Safety Committee\nmeetings The integration/acceptance of\nCommercial off the Shelf (COTS)\nproducts Engaging with third parties, such as\nequipment or system suppliers, to review and gather supporting\nProgrammable Elements Safety evidence in accordance with Def Stan\n00-055 Reporting the progress of\nProgrammable Elements Safety Engineering activities at Project and\nProgramme reviews Working within an\nestablished Safety Management System you will bring your expertise\nand experience to make recommendations for\nimprovements
Your skills\nand experiences:
Essential:
\n
Demonstrable experience in\nProgrammable Elements Safety Engineering and activities\ncontributing to the production of Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and\nSafety Integrity Level (SIL) allocation documents in order to\ndevelop Preliminary system safety assessment (PSSA) System Safety\nAssessment (SSA) Able to\ndemonstrate experience in understanding safety of systems with\nProgrammable Elements in accordance with Def Stan 00-055, Def Stan\n00-056 Experience in Safety Engineering and\nProgrammable Elements Safety Requirements in accordance with IEC/BS\nEN 61508 in defence domain Able to\ndemonstrate competence in rigour of Software Development Safety\nIntegrity Level (SIL) Design Assurance Level (DAL) depending on\nindustry experience

Desirable:

Relevant engineering qualification\nsuch as BEng/ MEng or equivalent\nexperience Incorporated\nEngineer or Chartered Engineer or working\ntowards

The\nProgrammable Elements team:
Would you like\nto apply your Programmable Elements Safety Engineering knowledge\nand expertise to the design of cutting-edge systems for the UK’s\nfuture submarine fleet? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal\nProgrammable Elements Safety Engineer to join the Integrated Combat\nSystems team based in a variety of locations in the UK. The Combat\nSystem encompasses the submarine’s ‘fight capability’. This\nincludes its ability to carry out all submarine Activities whilst\nsubmerged and remaining undetected by other parties. As a Principal\nEngineer – Safety (Programmable Elements), you will be carrying out\na range of Programmable Elements Safety Engineering activities and\nanalysis on all areas of the combat system, including navigation,\ncommand and control, and communication systems. We offer relocation\nsupport packages across all Submarine roles, subject to meeting\neligibility criteria.
