Overview

Understanding of UK ground conditions, regulatory frameworks, and sector-specific challenges. You will report functionally to the CSA Discipline Manager and at a project level to the CSA Lead Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership
    Deliver geotechnical designs for deep and shallow foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, ground improvements, temporary works. Conduct slope stability, bearing capacity, settlement, and liquefaction assessments. Oversee ground investigation planning, interpretation, and reporting in accordance with UK standards. Draft geotechnical investigation scopes of work. Produce geotechnical interpretative reports.
  • Leadership and Team Development
    Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers. Lead knowledge-sharing initiatives and promote best practices across the team. Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture aligned with company values.
  • Client and Stakeholder Engagement
    Act as primary point of contact for clients on geotechnical matters. Represent the CSA team in client and stakeholder meetings. Support business development and proposal preparation for onshore energy projects.
  • Compliance and Quality
    Ensure designs meet UK and international standards, including Eurocode for geotechnical, foundation and concrete designs as well as codes of practice. Implement quality assurance processes and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Collaboration and Coordination
    Work closely with structural, civil, and other engineering teams to integrate geotechnical solutions into overall project designs. Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and site teams during construction phases to resolve geotechnical issues. Engage with environmental specialists to ensure compliance with permitting and sustainability requirements. Facilitate regular design coordination meetings and contribute to interface management plans. Collaborate effectively across multiple offices and global teams to ensure consistent technical standards and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline (MSc preferred).
  • Chartered Engineer status preferred (ICE or equivalent).
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in geotechnical engineering, with significant onshore oil & gas or energy infrastructure exposure.
  • Expertise in foundation design for heavy plant, tanks, and pipelines.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GRLWEAP, Oasys Slope, Talren, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of UK ground conditions and regulatory environment.
  • Experience with ground improvement techniques (e.g., vibro-compaction, soil mixing).
  • Familiarity with environmental permitting and contaminated land assessments.
  • Experience in leading civil, structural, and architectural teams is desirable.
