We are seeking a Principal engineer to join our Liveable Places team in London (Chancery Lane). The successful candidate will be a highly skilled and experienced Principal Designer with a strong background in design management and project management, and a proven track record of leading design delivery and implementation of sustainable transport and public realm improvement projects from inception to completion, primarily in London.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Management: Oversee the design process to ensure high standards, meet client requirements, manage the design team, coordinate with other departments, and deliver on time and within budget.
- Project Management: Manage the overall project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation; ensure milestones are met and projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Client Liaison: Act as the main point of contact for clients, keeping them informed of progress and addressing their needs.
- Risk Management: Identify and manage project risks, resolving issues quickly and effectively.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure design work meets high standards and resolves issues promptly.
- Team Leadership: Lead and motivate the design team to work effectively and efficiently.
Our services focus on innovative sustainable transport solutions, including business cases and design development for projects such as Major Public Realm Improvements in central London and various cycling and active travel schemes.
A Typical Week
- Prepare highways designs for construction projects and coordinate with other disciplines.
- Produce drawings, design details, specifications, bills of quantities, and design calculations.
- Attend client and internal progress meetings and maintain action trackers.
- Liaise with discipline leads and update scheme programmes with inter-dependencies and logic.
- Implement QA/QM procedures, assist with Project Execution Plans, and carry out actions as required.
- Maintain project commercial risk registers.
- Support design H&S risk management plans and schedules.
- Coordinate inputs from technical disciplines and disseminate project information across teams.
- Coordinate technical decision logs and oversee fee proposals and change control documents.
- Prepare task assignment documents and arrange internal approvals.
- Support internal processes for financial reporting including forecasting.
- Prepare RAMS for site surveys and participate in site visits as needed.
- Update project plans and manage document control using SharePoint.
- Plan and deliver project deliverables and milestones; raise orders for supply chain partners’ technical support.
Supporting in management of Key Performance Indicators.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in design management and project management.
- Holder of a relevant professional qualification (IENG or CEng) or close to obtaining one.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, written and verbal, with the ability to report to senior levels.
- Proven track record of successfully leading design projects from inception to completion.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure.
