We are seeking a highly experienced Principal HV Plant Design Engineer to lead the delivery of primary engineering design for electrical substation projects up to 400kV. This role involves overseeing a team of design engineers and supporting the Design Managers in the day-to-day coordination of engineering and technical teams.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the design team to deliver high-quality engineering solutions in line with customer specifications, National Grid standards, and relevant international regulations. Review and approve HV plant design deliverables including: Single line diagrams Layout and elevation drawings MEWP access layouts Short-circuit force calculations Earthing designs and calculations Act as TP137 / SR188 CDAE and LCDAE for National Grid projects, ensuring design assurance and compliance. Promote and enforce Health & Safety standards in line with CDM regulations, identifying risks and mitigation strategies. Ensure all models and drawings undergo thorough review and approval, including those from suppliers and subcontractors. Champion BIM best practices and digital engineering standards across the team. Provide technical leadership and mentorship, driving innovation and continuous improvement in engineering methodology.
