As a Principal Marine Engineer, you will engage in pre-concept/concept surface and sub-surface vessel design, complex engineering design and analysis, development of new tools and processes, delivery of engineering consultancy services, and exploration of new business opportunities such as decarbonisation solutions across a range of global maritime programmes.ResponsibilitiesApply and further develop a breadth of engineering skills in Marine Engineering.Lead the development of the Marine Engineer Function and support resource planning and capability growth to meet business needs.Lead the development of new business opportunities and generate technical scopes, risk registers and work breakdown structures.Lead engineering analyses, technical studies and R&D projects to deliver high-quality end-to-end solutions for customers.Provide mentoring, guidance and leadership to aid the development of Marine Engineers and grow technical and behavioural skills.Investigate and solve complex technical problems in concept, basic and detail designs.Develop and maintain technical procedures, standards, processes, practices, guidelines and standards.Interface directly with customers and clients, representing our teams to discuss and deliver engineering solutions to complex problems.QualificationsDegree qualified in a relevant STEM discipline (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Marine Technology, Naval Engineering), or equivalent experience in naval and commercial ship design, construction, or maintenance.Professional member of a relevant engineering institution (e.g., RINA, IMarEST, IMechE, IET).Recognised as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer by the UK Engineering Council (or actively working towards accredited status).Essential skillsExperienced in at least one of the following technical knowledge areas: propulsion systems (primary & secondary), power and electrical distribution, marine structures, auxiliary machinery and mechanical/fluid ship systems, P&ID development/checking, pipework/structural/electrical engineering calculations and analysis, detailed design, in-service through-life support, vessel and system concept design.Experience using design and analysis software packages (e.g., FORAN, ShipConstructor, TRIBON, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Ansys Structural/Fluent, Matlab, Star CCM+, MS Excel).A readiness to grow and develop technical and behavioural competence to operate at the cutting edge of the discipline.Ability to work collaboratively with a curious, continuous improvement mindset, challenging yourself and others to find new solutions.A proven track record of delivering reliability, productivity and quality in a technical consultancy environment.Desired skillsUnderstanding of the Marine Engineer role throughout all stages of the design lifecycle (CADMID).Understanding of classification society rules, regulations and standards in design, construction and in-service lifecycle phases.Experience in whole ship design including performance assessment, design integration, construction and through-life maintenance.Experience working in multi-company and engineering-discipline teams with effective communication.Experience in a technical consulting environment, leading or supporting multiple engineering projects and customers.ExperienceUnderstanding of the Marine Engineer role throughout all stages of the design lifecycle (CADMID).Understanding of classification society rules, regulations and standards in the design, construction and in-service lifecycle phases.Experience of whole ship design including performance assessment, design integration, construction and through-life maintenance.Experience working in multi-company and engineering discipline teams with effective communication.Experience in a technical consulting environment, leading and/or supporting multiple engineering projects and customers.Demonstrated understanding of the decarbonisation challenges faced by the marine industry today and in the future (IMO regulations, Emissions Trading Scheme).What do I need before I applySole UK, SC ClearanceThe successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of 10 years post-graduate experience (12 years for non-degree-qualified) in either the commercial or naval maritime domain.BenefitsCollaborative working environment – we stand shoulder to shoulder with our clients and peers through good times and challenges.We empower technology-loving professionals by allowing them to expand their skills and take part in inspiring projects.Expleo Academy – enables you to acquire and develop the right skills through accredited training courses.Competitive company benefits.Always working as one team; our people are encouraged to think big and challenge the status quo.Equal OpportunitiesWe are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability.
