Role description: Our Water team tackles technically challenging projects and AMP8 programmes. We are renowned for delivering complex schemes and collaborating with prominent water companies and contractors. We are recruiting a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead within multidisciplinary delivery teams on water and wastewater capital projects, applying technical expertise to clients regionally and across the UK. This role sits within the Resilience Global Business Area, focusing on protecting the natural environment and water resources while powering our world for future generations.

Role accountabilities:

  • Ability to self-start and work independently or as part of a team, carrying out production, checking, review or approval of complex mechanical design deliverables.
  • Lead design and advisory services relating to new and existing water and wastewater conveyance and treatment assets.
  • Ensure safety of yourself and others through design leadership and actions.
  • Technical delivery of multi-disciplinary projects in a Design Lead capacity, using latest digital design processes and resources.
  • Identify and develop innovative and optimised technical solutions based on client needs and drivers.
  • Lead and co-ordinate work with multi-disciplinary teams (process, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, ICA).
  • Establish and grow relationships with clients and delivery partners on technical, commercial and progress matters.
  • Ensure projects meet required technical, legislative, quality, safety and environmental standards and objectives.
  • Mentoring and technical supervision of colleagues for their professional development.
  • Line management and performance development responsibility for assigned staff.
  • Capture key project and technical knowledge, including innovations.
  • Promote MEICA team capability and achievements internally and externally.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other directly related degree.
  • Chartered Engineer status and membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g., IMechE, IET, CIWEM).
  • Significant experience and track record in technical delivery of process plant systems on complex engineering projects, preferably related to the water and wastewater industry.
  • Experience of working on design and construct projects using digital design platforms.
  • Team leader with collaborative behaviours.
  • Feasibility to detailed design stage delivery experience.
