What you will do

As the demand for our expertise grows, we have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our experienced MEP team. You will be able to demonstrate solid experience of working in a design capacity with extensive technical knowledge of building services installations. You will be expected to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver successful projects within a range of sizes and sectors. Our current portfolio includes work in residential and housing, development and regeneration, healthcare, education, commercial and residential sectors. You will manage your own project work, undertake detailed design to the required standards and deliver excellent client service.

  1. Leading project mechanical design and, for smaller projects, managing electrical engineers and specialists
  2. Leading as the lead engineer in a design team responsible for mechanical and public health building services design
  3. Supervising and monitoring the work of others in this function
  4. Engaging with Clients as a project lead to ensure stakeholder requirements are incorporated and to develop strong Client relationships
  5. Completing mechanical QA project reviews to ensure technical requirements align with industry regulations and the Client brief
  6. Advising clients on energy use and conservation to minimise environmental impact and carbon emissions
  7. Ideally using CAD and BIM (Revit) software and other resources to design required systems
  8. Undertaking mechanical design calculations with appropriate software (e.g., Hevacomp and IES)
  9. Producing reports, drawings and specifications to suit various RIBA design stages
  10. Liaising with structural engineers, architects, surveyors, and contractors within project teams
  11. Attending project group and technical meetings
  12. Ensuring design and maintenance of building systems meet legislative and health and safety requirements
  13. Providing ongoing mentoring and management of junior engineers and apprentices

The skills and experience you need

  1. Significant experience and technical knowledge within mechanical and public health building services design, from either a consultant or contractor background
  2. Accredited degree or higher in an applicable discipline (HNC/HND)
  3. CEng status
  4. Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a close-knit team
  5. Attention to detail and a strong desire to deliver high standards of client care

Yearly salary: £65,000
