Principal Mechanical Engineer (Energy)

Overview
We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Energy Transition Team. You will lead the development of Mechanical designs on a wide range of Energy projects from initial inception through development, construction, operation and decommissioning. Projects include conventional power plants, energy from waste plants, industrial facilities and carbon capture schemes. Location is flexible across our UK office network.
What You Will Do
- Lead the development of mechanical designs for energy projects across concept, FEED and detailed design stages
- Prepare mechanical deliverables such as calculations, equipment specifications and datasheets for turbines, compressors, pumps, pressure vessels and heat exchangers
- Collaborate with process engineers on process flow diagrams and piping & instrumentation diagrams
- Support development of plant layouts and 3D models
- Engage with equipment vendors to develop equipment package designs and participate in technical evaluations of vendor designs
- Provide engineering advice on plant integrity issues for operational assets
- Develop proposals and bids for the mechanical discipline and contribute to multi-disciplinary proposals
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
- A Degree in a relevant Engineering subject
- Chartered Engineer or working towards IEng/CEng and a member of a relevant Engineering Institute
- Post-graduate work experience in Power Generation or Oil & Gas
- Knowledge of national and international codes and standards for design and manufacturing of plant equipment and piping
- Experience in pressure vessel and piping design and stress analysis
- Experience working with mechanical designers and pipe stress engineers on plant 3D models
- Proficient in MS Excel for schedules and datasheets; MathCAD for engineering calculations
- Experience diagnosing thermal plant operational and integrity issues
