Overview

Exciting opportunity to join a scaling engineering business as a Principal Mechanical Engineer. Our client is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join the team as a Technical lead overseeing the design and development of complex mechatronic systems used in defence and security applications worldwide. This is a hands-on role where you’ll take ownership across the full product lifecycle, from initial concept and CAD modelling through to verification, testing and continuous improvement. You’ll work closely with electronics and software colleagues to deliver high-precision engineered products that perform in demanding environments. Alongside technical leadership, you’ll mentor engineers, set standards, and ensure best practice across multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of complex mechatronic systems for defence and security applications.
  • Oversee the full product lifecycle from concept through verification and testing to continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with electronics and software teams to deliver high-precision engineered products for demanding environments.
  • Provide technical leadership, set design standards, and ensure best practices across multiple projects.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong product design & development experience in complex, high-spec environments
  • 3D CAD (Autodesk Inventor essential) + FEA
  • Track record of delivering to tight deadlines/budgets
  • Ability to mentor others and influence design standards
