Overview
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you'll play a key leadership role across major multidisciplinary building projects. You'll be responsible for delivering technical solutions, managing teams, and engaging with clients on high-value developments in both the private and public sectors.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) project delivery teams
- Provide mechanical design expertise and technical guidance on complex projects
- Direct the development of detailed and performance specifications
- Manage feasibility studies and ensure robust design strategies
- Serve as the primary contact for clients and oversee delivery against KPIs
Business Development
- Support the growth of business opportunities across the region
- Strengthen client relationships through outstanding service and solutions
- Represent the team's technical expertise and capabilities to prospective clients
Management
- Mentor and line manage junior engineering staff
- Ensure contracts or letters of intent are in place prior to project initiation
- Oversee project workload, resource allocation and staffing plans
- Lead team meetings covering quality, health & safety, training and resource updates
- Embed key practices around digital design, sustainability, smart systems and modern methods of construction (MMC)
Your Team
- Core group of 10 mechanical engineers, part of a wider multi-disciplinary MEP team of 35
- Flexible work setup across several office locations in the South-East and remote options
- Reporting into the regional director with responsibility for project and technical delivery
- Supported by graduate, senior and principal engineers, as well as BIM and sustainability specialists
What We're Looking For
- Leadership experience in mechanical building services design
- Strong technical knowledge aligned with UK codes, standards and regulations
- Capability across feasibility, concept, detail and construction stages
- Confident in client liaison and developing design solutions to meet client briefs
- Proven ability to manage project timelines, technical deliverables and budgets
