Overview

Do You Have What It Takes to Lead Mechanical Innovation in Hyperscale Data Centers?

At Black & White Engineering, we’re not just designing mechanical systems, we’re enabling the infrastructure that powers the digital economy. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering technically complex, high-performance data centre projects across Europe. This is your opportunity to lead from the front, influence design strategy, and work with some of the most respected names in the mission-critical sector.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the full mechanical design lifecycle from early-stage concept development through to detailed design, construction support, and commissioning.
  • Design and specify HVAC systems, chilled water networks, CRAC/CRAH units, ventilation strategies, and fire protection systems tailored to hyperscale and colocation data centres.
  • Ensure designs comply with Uptime Institute Tier standards, ASHRAE guidelines, and local European regulations, while advancing energy efficiency and resilience.
  • Act as technical lead on major projects, manage client relationships, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Communicate complex ideas clearly to clients to build trust and drive project success.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in mechanical building services, ideally with experience in mission-critical environments.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, IES VE, and CFD software; solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and energy modelling.
  • Chartered status (or working towards it) is highly desirable.

Team and Culture

You’ll be supported by a collaborative UK-based team and a global engineering design centre, with access to world-class resources. The culture emphasises continuous learning, including lunch & learn sessions, accredited CPD programmes, and support for chartership and further education. For senior engineers at Principal level, there is a fast-track route to Associate Director for career progression.

Benefits

  • 25 days holiday (option to purchase 5 extra days through salary sacrifice)
  • Discretionary annual profit-related bonus (typically 6 to 10%, based on company performance)
  • 7% matched pension contribution
  • Private healthcare
  • 4x life insurance
  • Payment protection scheme (75% of salary paid for up to 3 years if in long-term sickness absence)
  • Professional development support (accredited courses, lunch & learn sessions)
  • Global reach, local impact, work on flagship projects across Europe while being part of a close-knit UK team supported by our international design centre

If you’re ready to lead with technical excellence and shape the next generation of data centre infrastructure, we’d love to hear from you.
