Vertical Recruitment is working with a global MEP consultancy known for delivering high-performance engineering solutions across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia.
Following continued growth in the data centre sector, they’re now looking to appoint a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their Manchester office. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on technically complex, high-value projects while contributing to the expansion of their North West presence.
You’ll take a hands-on role in project delivery, leading multi-disciplinary teams, engaging directly with clients, and supporting the ongoing development of the UK business.
The Role
You’ll act as a technical lead on projects — especially within the data centre space — ensuring high-quality delivery from concept to completion. This is a senior role that also offers scope to contribute to strategic business growth, including client development, team mentoring, and commercial oversight.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the mechanical design on major projects, particularly within the data centre sector
* Manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver on time and to budget
* Liaise with clients and external design teams, acting as a key point of contact throughout the project lifecycle
* Oversee the preparation of technical documents, specifications, and drawings
* Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and internal quality procedures
* Monitor project performance including planning, cost control, and change management
* Support with financial reporting, including internal accounts and external applications for payment
* Promote a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement
* Mentor and support the development of junior engineers
* Identify new opportunities to support business growth across the North West
What You’ll Need
* Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent experience)
* Chartered Engineer status or working towards
* Proven experience delivering mechanical building services designs on complex projects
* Desirable experience in data centre or mission-critical environments
* Strong knowledge of Building Services Engineering principles and multi-disciplinary coordination
* Commercially aware with experience managing budgets and programmes
* Strong communication and leadership skills
* Proficient with industry-standard software including Autodesk Suite, ProDesign, and Microsoft Office
* Full UK driving licence
