We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Leeds or Cambridge. With hybrid working allowing for a combination of in-office and home working, this role would suit an experienced Mechanical Engineer who wants to take their next step in their career within an industry-leading consultancy by working on exciting projects in the water sector.

Responsibilities

As part of this role, you will be involved in the whole project life cycle from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support including site surveys and investigations. You will be responsible for working and liaising with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners, and other stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for the projects and community. You will also manage and guide junior team members and help with their development.

You will be able to provide engineering input to design outputs in collaboration with other disciplines, including General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, Control Philosophies, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams. You will deliver technical presentations to clients and other design engineers, participate in collaborative design discussions, technical workshops, safety reviews including HAZOPs and ALMs, and provide construction and commissioning services. You will support the development of junior engineers and provide technical leadership to the Flood and Coastal Mechanical team.

You will understand how lowland drainage pumping stations operate and gain experience in assessing existing site infrastructure to develop and deliver the mechanical design. You will also have awareness of the Eel Regulations 2009 and their implications on flood and coastal pumping stations. We would be interested in candidates with experience in the energy, infrastructure & water sectors in a mechanical engineering capacity.

We are looking for someone who can collaborate with other disciplines and communicate effectively to deliver successful project outcomes.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be an experienced Mechanical Engineer who is ideally chartered with the IMechE, with experience in mechanical design and ideally experience with pump station optioneering, design, construction management, and commissioning.

You will have experience producing and reviewing technical outputs such as technical specifications and reports, sizing and designing pumping systems and water systems, schedules, and you will be familiar with collaborative planning reviews and designs of solutions, providing construction and commissioning services.

You will be able to provide input to design outputs in collaboration with other disciplines, such as General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, Control Philosophies, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams. Strong communication skills and the ability to deliver technical presentations to clients and other design engineers, as well as contributing to collaborative design discussions, are essential. You will be able to provide technical leadership to the Flood and Coastal Mechanical team and support the development of junior engineers.
