Stantec Brighton, United Kingdom. We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join us in our Leeds or Cambridge office with hybrid working (in-office and home working).

Responsibilities

  • Involve yourself in the full project life cycle from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support, including site surveys and investigations.
  • Collaborate with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners, and other stakeholders to deliver positive project outcomes for communities.
  • Manage and guide junior team members and support their development.
  • Produce and review technical outputs such as specifications, reports, pumping and water system designs, and schedules.
  • Provide engineering input to design outputs in collaboration with other disciplines (GA drawings, 3D models, control philosophies, P&ID).
  • Deliver technical presentations to clients and design engineers and contribute to collaborative design discussions, safety reviews (including HAZOPs and ALMs) and technical workshops.
  • Provide technical leadership to the Flood and Coastal Mechanical team and support junior engineers.
  • Understand and assess lowland drainage pumping stations and review existing site infrastructure to develop mechanical designs; awareness of the Eel Regulations 2009 implications on flood and coastal pumping stations.
  • Bring experience from the energy, infrastructure, and water sectors in a mechanical engineering capacity is desirable.
  • Apply a client-focused approach and design with community needs in mind, emphasizing collaboration and service excellence.

Qualifications

  • Experienced Mechanical Engineer, ideally chartered with the IMechE.
  • Experience in mechanical design, pump station optioneering, construction management, and commissioning.
  • Proven ability to produce and review technical specifications, reports, and pumping/water system sizing and design.
  • Familiar with collaborative planning reviews and solution designs, and providing construction and commissioning services.
  • Ability to contribute to multidisciplinary design outputs (GA drawings, 3D models, control philosophies, P&ID) and to communicate effectively with clients and engineers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to deliver technical presentations and lead workshops.
  • Leadership capability to guide the Flood and Coastal Mechanical team and mentor junior engineers.
  • Understanding of lowland drainage pumping stations and related regulations; knowledge of UK Eel Regulations 2009 is advantageous.
