Join Stantec and help us tackle our communities\' urgent climate, environmental, and efficiency challenges. We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join us in our office in Leeds or Cambridge. With hybrid working allowing for a combination of in-office and home working, this role would suit an experienced Mechanical Engineer who wants to take their next step in their career within an industry-leading consultancy by working on exciting projects in the water sector.
Across Stantec, we are building on a highly successful period of growth. As part of this role, you will be involved in the whole project life cycle from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support including site surveys and investigations. You will be responsible for working and liaising with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners and other stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for the projects and community. You will also manage and guide more junior team members and help with their development.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design activities for water sector projects from feasibility through construction support.
- Produce and review technical outputs such as specifications, reports, pumping system sizing and design, and project documentation.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to provide integrated design outputs (GA drawings, 3D models, control philosophies, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams).
- Provide engineering input to design outputs and lead technical discussions, workshops, safety reviews (including HAZOPs and ALMs).
- Offer technical leadership to the Flood and Coastal Mechanical team and support the development of junior engineers.
- Understand lowland drainage pumping stations, assess existing site infrastructure, and contribute to mechanical design delivery; awareness of the Eel Regulations 2009 and their implications on flood and coastal pumping stations.
- Engage with project managers, clients and stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for projects and communities.
About You / Qualifications
- Experienced Mechanical Engineer, ideally chartered with IMechE.
- Experience in mechanical design, pump station optioneering, construction management and commissioning.
- Proven ability to produce and review technical outputs, and to design pumping and water systems; experience with schedules, and collaborative planning reviews.
- Ability to contribute to multidisciplinary design outputs (GA drawings, 3D models, control philosophies, P&I Diagrams).
- Strong communication skills with experience delivering technical presentations and participating in workshops and safety reviews.
- Technical leadership capabilities and a focus on developing junior engineers.
- Understanding of lowland drainage pumping stations and familiarity with regulatory context; interest in energy, infrastructure and water sectors is desirable.
Most importantly, you will embody and support our values of client focus, designing with community in mind, collaboration and service excellence.
