Overview

Join as Principal Mechanical Engineer. The role is based in our office in Leeds or Cambridge with hybrid working (a combination of in-office and home working).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical engineering work across projects in the water sector, from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support, including site surveys and investigations.
  • Collaborate with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners, and other stakeholders to achieve positive project outcomes for communities.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior team members and support their development.
  • Produce and review technical outputs such as specifications, reports, pumping and water system designs, schedules, and construction/commissioning services.
  • Input to design outputs in collaboration with other disciplines (General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, Control Philosophies, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams) and participate in design reviews and workshops (including safety reviews, HAZOPs, and ALMs).
  • Assess existing site infrastructure and understand how lowland drainage pumping stations operate; apply awareness of the Eel Regulations 2009 and their implications on flood and coastal pumping stations.

About You / Qualifications

  • Experienced Mechanical Engineer, ideally chartered with the IMechE.
  • Experience in mechanical design, pump station optioneering, design, construction management, and commissioning.
  • Ability to produce and review technical outputs, and communicate clearly with clients and design teams.
  • Strong planning, collaboration, and leadership skills with the ability to deliver technical presentations and workshops.
  • Awareness of the Eel Regulations 2009 and its relevance to flood and coastal pumping stations; experience in energy, infrastructure and water sectors is advantageous.
