The role
As a Principal Nuclear Facilities Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of our nuclear operations and maintenance team, leading a group of skilled Engineers and acting as a subject matter expert. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant operation of nuclear facilities, making a real impact on national defence and infrastructure. Day-to-day, you’ll manage and coordinate maintenance, repair and breakdown activities across nuclear facilities, including cranes, HVAC, and cooling systems. Other responsibilities include:
Overseeing inspections, testing, calibration and commissioning of systems and equipment
Ensuring safe operation of plant and processes in line with Nuclear Site Licence and Authorisation Conditions
Leading and developing a multidisciplinary team of electrical and mechanical engineers
Delivering multiple complex commissioning packages across concurrent projects
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience for the Principal Nuclear Facilities Engineer
Strong background in commissioning, operations and maintenance within nuclear or heavy engineering environments
Proven knowledge of safe release of systems, Lock Out Tag Out, and Safe Systems of Work
Hands-on experience with heavy-duty mechanical systems maintenance and repair
Understanding of Licence Site Conditions and Operating Instructions relevant to commissioning
Comfortable working at heights
Qualifications for the Principal Nuclear Facilities Engineer
NVQ Level 4 (or above) in an Engineering discipline, or Level 3 with significant commissioning experience
IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
