Overview
Principal Power Electronics Design Engineer – Warwickshire, UK. This role is suited to a Principal level engineer with extensive experience in electrified propulsion applications (e.g. traction inverters, DC-DC converters or OBC) for land, aerospace or marine systems. Salary £70-85k (flexible) + bonus + benefits. Hybrid working: Leamington Spa. The role requires extensive experience in power electronics design aligned to e-mobility (electrified powertrain) applications. Engineers should be able to take products through the design lifecycle to validated prototypes.
Responsibilities
Power electronics design and development for electric powertrain systems and electrified propulsion applications (e.g. traction inverters, DC-DC converters, or OBC).
Technical leadership, customer facing and technical project delivery in a customer-centric organisation. Take power electronics designs from concept to optimised prototypes, typically for e-mobility / electric vehicle applications, including inverter / motor controller, DCDC converter, OBC, etc.
Engage with e-mobility / electric vehicle applications across automotive, aerospace, marine, defence and off-highway sectors. Lead projects and provide technical direction.
Qualifications and Skills
Degree / master’s degree in electrical or electronic engineering (or equivalent).
Strong communication skills (experience working directly with customers).
Extensive power electronics design ability (power inverters, AC/DC or DC/DC converters, or SMPS) for e-mobility applications or similar.
Experience designing digital and mixed-signal control and interface circuit design.
Experience PCB layout using tools such as Altium (or similar).
Experience of inverters / converters for vehicle electrification, motor control, or similar; experience in variable speed drives, DC-AC traction motors, PMSM control, DC-DC converters or OBC is desirable.
Good practical engineering aptitude including development of power electronics hardware in lab, rig and vehicle environments for demanding applications.
Experience leading projects and providing technical leadership.
Experience of designing digital and mixed-signal control and interface circuitry and thermal management of power electronics systems is advantageous.
Experience of magnetic design would be useful (e.g. for electric motors).
Location
Commutable from Birmingham and surrounding areas (Redditch, Solihull, Nuneaton, Hinckley, Leamington Spa, Banbury, Daventry, Rugby, Coventry, Lutterworth).
