This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in safeguarding some of the UK’s most advanced defence programmes. You will be joining a leading engineering organisation that is shaping the future of naval and maritime technology.

As a Principal Product Safety Engineer, you will provide expert guidance on safety assurance across complex projects, ensuring rigorous standards are embedded throughout the engineering lifecycle. You will take ownership of safety arguments, lead a team of safety practitioners, and collaborate with technical specialists and external stakeholders to deliver safe and reliable systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Advising project and engineering teams on product safety considerations and compliance with defence standards
  • Developing and maintaining safety cases and documentation using recognised safety analysis methods such as FMEA, FTA, FHA or STPA
  • Engaging with third parties to review evidence and strengthen safety case material
  • Applying ALARP principles to ensure risks are managed to acceptable levels
  • Providing leadership and mentoring to other safety engineers

What we are looking for:

  • Strong understanding of safety engineering principles, processes and assurance practices
  • Experience using recognised safety analysis tools and methodologies
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders
  • Qualified engineers from other disciplines who have knowledge of safety engineering will also be considered

Salary: £55,000 to £65,000 plus excellent benefits
