Principal / Senior Engineer, Roads - Exeter

Join our Local Government Highways and Bridges team based in Exeter, Devon. We provide highways design and consultancy services for local authority clients within the South West and focus on delivering improvements for local communities with active and healthy travel and mobility across the transport network.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on Traffic Engineering projects, managing all aspects of delivery from technical order (TRO) production through to compliant placement of infrastructure signage
  • Act as Technical Design Lead and Project Manager to deliver projects that safeguard the local transport network
  • Act as Line Manager for people in the Communities Highways team, and provide guidance and mentoring to junior staff
  • Prepare and review reports, drawings, schedules and other documents in accordance with local procedures and guidance
  • Coordinate and communicate with multi-disciplinary supporting teams across the UK and with clients and stakeholders
  • Work directly with clients to deliver projects on time, on budget and with consistency
  • Provide construction supervision for delivery of schemes

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate

  • A passion for working on projects that make a real difference to local communities
  • Experience and knowledge in developing highway, traffic and civil engineering projects, especially those delivering sustainable and active travel benefits
  • A proven ability to manage projects and individuals, prioritise, meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision
  • Good spoken and written communication skills, able to liaise with public sector officials, the public and other senior colleagues; strong stakeholder management
  • Good working knowledge of the UK TSRDG 2016 and associated Traffic Act, including governance and approval procedures
  • Chartered or Incorporated professional status preferred, but those working towards professional qualification will be considered
  • Experience in GIS mapping software is advantageous
