We’re looking for a Principal Software Engineer to help shape the future of our digital experiences, both in-store and online.

You’ll lead from the front, defining the strategic technology vision for our retail platforms and collaborating with product, architecture, and delivery teams to bring it to life. This role involves integrating tools like CommerceTools, Algolia, and Contentful, mentoring senior engineers, and delivering scalable, secure, and high‑quality software that powers millions of customer interactions across our global business.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead the engineering capability and technology direction for Specsavers’ retail platforms.
• Collaborate with product, architecture, and delivery teams to translate vision into actionable plans.
• Mentor and develop senior engineers to deliver scalable, secure, and high‑quality software.
• Integrate tools such as CommerceTools, Algolia, and Contentful to support customer experiences.
• Drive innovation, build high‑performing teams, and influence cross‑functional stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Hands‑on experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, React or Vue, Node.js or Java, and Azure.
• Proven experience leading teams, shaping roadmaps, and delivering complex solutions at scale.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders and collaborate across disciplines.
• Experience with retail platforms and multi‑store environments is a big plus.
• Experience with modern commerce and content tools is advantageous.
