We are seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to lead the efficient and compliant delivery of structural engineering design on energy projects, including energy, renewable energy, healthcare, heritage, commercial, industrial and hospitality sectors.

A Little More About Your Role…
Working on a variety of interesting projects across the sectors listed above.
- Responsible for the efficient and compliant delivery of all structural engineering design on the project, leading the technical design delivery of the project.
- Coordinate with the client to ensure technical project requirements are met, lead day-to-day client liaison, and assume design responsibility for all structural works.
- Support the team in administering the structural design, financial management of the project, team costs and performance.
- Manage and mentor WSP technical structural engineering staff on the project; work under the direction of the WSP Lead Project Engineer and Project Manager.
- Check and review structural engineering work in line with WSP processes and manuals; delegate to Senior Structural Engineers as required.
- Work towards Chartered Engineer status with relevant professional Institution or a suitable WSP mentor; Apprentice route graduates may have Incorporated Engineer or EngTech status.
- Demonstrate effective communication and inter-personal skills; write letters, emails, summaries and reports; prepare and deliver presentations and design concepts.
- Knowledge of REVIT Structure to coordinate structural design with WSP REVIT Structures models.
- Develop ability to conceive approximate scheme solutions to assess viability of alternative materials and forms of construction.
- Solve structural engineering problems using traditional hand calculations and computer analysis; understand limitations of techniques.
- Prepare materials and workmanship specifications and design reports; awareness of environmental and sustainability objectives and legislation.
- Develop experience in construction techniques, plant and machinery, temporary support systems, material testing procedures, and construction sequencing; site visits on projects.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate…
- Experience of organizing design reviews at key project stages.
- Experience in hazard and risk assessments to mitigate risks to site personnel, users and the public.
- Ability to manage and lead through programming and control of resources in delivery of project elements.
- Experience in the technical delivery of project elements with a total/combined annual fee income of at least £25k per annum to time and budget.
- Identify and communicate issues that could impact programme or scope; share knowledge to improve discipline efficiency and productivity.
- Understand contract scope and the impact of changes; mentor at least one Graduate Engineer or Technician.
