The role balances strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery, creating pathways for innovation to be practical, scalable, and deliver impact for passengers and freight. You will shape solutions to complex challenges across the rail system and ensure technologies within the GBRX portfolio are technically coherent, system ready, integrated across infrastructure and rolling stock, and aligned with wider industry needs.Balancing strategic authorship with hands‑on delivery, you will translate GBRX priorities into actionable technical positions and roadmaps. These will guide delivery partners, enable integration across projects and programmes, and create pathways for innovation to scale. You will convene and collaborate with industry partners, suppliers, and government to turn technical challenges into clear problem statements and scoped work packages, underpinned by sound engineering and systems thinking.What we need from youProven experience in systems integration, systems engineering, or technical architecture within complex or safety‑critical environments.Ability to frame technical problems and work with multidisciplinary teams to shape coordinated, delivery‑focused solutions.Strong analytical and conceptual thinking, with the ability to operate effectively at both strategic and technical levels.Skilled in assessing technical feasibility, integration readiness, and the real‑world constraints that affect technology adoption.Experience of engaging effectively across organisational and sector boundaries, including with senior stakeholders and delivery partners.Confidence in authoring technical documentation, position papers, and briefings that communicate complex issues with clarity.Familiarity with railway technical domains, or demonstrable experience in infrastructure, industrial systems, or other regulated environments.Educated to degree level, or equivalent professional experience in engineering, systems, or technology delivery.What to expectThis hybrid role combines the flexibility of remote work with regular in‑office collaboration, ensuring close connection with our diverse team of experts. You will work to ensure alignment with industry needs and support the integration of technologies across projects.Salary and BenefitsSalary: £85,395–£101,323Closing date: 25/09/25.
