Principal/Lead Civil Engineer
New Today
We are looking to strengthen our Engineering team in the @one Alliance with a Lead Infrastructure Engineer based at Peterborough or a suitable Anglian regional office, with hybrid working available.
You will report directly to the Senior Design Manager, providing civil and pipeline engineering technical reviews, guidance, and inputs to both clean water and water recycling infrastructure projects. Your role will include design support for numerous infrastructure schemes, ensuring all designs are fit for purpose and comply with current legislation and standards.
You will have dual reporting lines into both the programme area's Senior Design Manager (Engineering) and the Principal Infrastructure Engineer. Your responsibilities include reviewing and accepting key project deliverables (PCI; drawings/models; calculations) across an infrastructure (pipeline) programme area, providing technical expertise in clean or wastewater pipeline design, and supporting engineering standards across the @one alliance. You will mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership rather than delivering individual projects.
The role encourages innovation, promoting the development of standard design methods and fostering collaboration across the business to improve efficiency and drive continuous development in engineering and design.
Key responsibilities:
- Report regularly to the Principal Engineer.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders to track milestones and review dates.
- Ensure all drawings and calculations meet quality, safety, and technical standards.
- Liaise with Assurance Lead Engineers at key project milestones.
- Review construction site queries and change requests for suitability and accuracy.
- Lead design review meetings with infrastructure engineers and managers.
- Participate in CDM and commissioning strategy meetings.
- Identify and implement process improvements.
- Coordinate with CAD and design teams on drawing/model outputs.
- Apply risk management hierarchy in design processes.
- Conduct site visits when necessary.
- Coordinate with other departments regarding design requirements.
- Ensure workload completion to standards and specifications.
- Manage quality via BIM360 workflow reviews.
- Support other engineering leads and discipline engineers to meet project standards.
Preferred qualifications include a degree in water/wastewater engineering or a related field, with proven experience as a senior discipline engineer, strong technical knowledge, project management skills, and familiarity with design software processes. Experience in designing potable and wastewater pipelines, sewerage systems, trunk water mains, and pressurised and gravity sewerage systems is essential.
