Overview

The Principal/Senior HV Plant Design Engineer (Substation Design) role is within Stantec's Energy team. This position involves leading and delivering HV substation design projects, working across disciplines on FEED design and detailed design, for substation refurbishment, extensions and new-build projects. Projects may include HVDC, interconnectors, windfarms, substations, OHL, geotechnical solutions, building design, protection systems, LVAC, FEED, new builds, refurbishment works, connections schemes, etc. You will work with key T&D clients in the UK and contribute to the UK energy transition.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the HV team for electrical substation design projects, in collaboration with other disciplines.
  • Support or lead FEED design and detailed design for refurbishment/extensions and new-build projects.
  • Engage with clients and understand their needs; leverage innovations and industry best practices.
  • Coach and contribute to the wider energy team; share knowledge and promote ideas.
  • Contribute to developing innovative and sustainable solutions to industry-wide efficiency and environmental challenges.
  • Work with various clients across the UK and participate in projects across multiple technical disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field; Bachelor degree or equivalent acceptable for those with different backgrounds.
  • Experience as HV Substation / Primary Plant Design Engineer with design and specification production for HV substation plant electrical power systems and associated components.
  • Understanding of protection and control (P&C) aspects is preferable.
  • Pro-active with knowledge of the electricity transmission and distribution industry; ability to coach and work within the energy team.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt; ability to contribute to the team and client projects.
