IONATE is a deep technology start-up building the technology backbone for smart electricity grids. Our team is looking for a Senior Electronics Engineer to support our work on game-changing green technology and grow within our world-class team. This role will suit someone who thrives in a fast-moving, ever-changing environment, where no two days are the same. Reporting to the Power Electronics team lead and requiring extensive knowledge and experience in electronics development and design, you will play a key role in developing, designing, implementing and testing electronics circuits and systems, taking concepts and prototypes through to commercial products. With a focus on grid-connected inverter design, you will contribute to design & analyses, simulations, technical discussions, verification and validation processes. You will need an innovative approach to engineering with well-grounded reasoning and experience, contributing to live ongoing projects and test activities and helping develop our HIT technology.

What you will do:

  • Develop electronics hardware and circuitry for power converters and controllers in grid connected applications.
  • Design, prototype, and validate power conversion systems (DC-DC/AC-DC), mixed-signal circuits including analogue-to-digital converters (ADCs) and pulse-width modulation (PWM) controllers.
  • Design, create and test PCBs, including soldering and PCB rework.
  • Develop PCB layouts with signal integrity focus and interfaced power stages with transformers, digital controllers, passive filters, and electromechanical systems.
  • Actively participate in technical development and testing across a multi-disciplinary team including power electronics designers, mechanical engineers, control & software engineers.
  • Be involved hands-on with hardware design and validation respecting safety, quality, and international standards, whilst working to clear timelines.

What you will need:

Technical Expertise in Electronics

  • Degree in Electrical and Electronics engineering or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in electronics design, ideally in high power applications.
  • Good understanding of electronic and electrical components and their principles.
  • Good understanding of signal processing and passive/active filter designs.
  • An understanding of best practices related to thermomechanical designs.

Design, Modelling & Simulation

  • Experience in electronics circuit modelling and simulation.
  • Experience using tools such as SPICE, Altium, Confluence, JIRA.

Testing & Validation

  • Experience conducting laboratory and site-based testing using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power analysers, grid emulators etc.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Communication skills enabling you to work with various teams across the globe.
  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally when required for testing/ commissioning.
  • A drive to learn new things!

It would be useful to have:

  • Design experience for low noise, mixed signal systems.
  • Experience designing systems to meet EMC/EMI standards and testing commercially ready systems for UL/TUV certification.
  • Testing experience working with voltages up to 1kV.
  • Experience designing systems fit for large scale manufacturing and production.

Benefits

  • Flexible working schedules: Hybrid work-from-home arrangements in West London; discuss scheduling preferences at application stage.
  • Private Medical & Dental Insurance: Full private medical and dental cover through Bupa from day one, with optional dependents coverage.
  • Employee Option Plan: Equity in IONATE.
  • Company pension: Competitive, flexible pension product.
  • Career Development: Ongoing professional development and career growth.
  • Cycle to Work scheme: Support for low carbon commuting.
  • Slow travel: Extra 2 days per year for lower carbon travel options.

About IONATE
