Job Description:

Process Design Engineer (Fluid Systems) - Submarines
Full Time
Derby
An opportunity with our Design and Execution team has become available for a Process Design Engineer with experience in Fluid System Design to undertake rig design supporting Verification and Validation (V&V) and production testing of Nuclear Steam Raising Plant components.

Our nuclear business is a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy's nuclear submarine fleet, managing all aspects of plant design, safety, manufacture, performance, and through-life support.

The Process Design Engineer (Fluid Systems) will work as part of Integrated Project Teams to design new and modify existing multi-million-pound test rig designs, primarily in our Test Laboratory at Raynesway in Derby.

Why Rolls-Royce? Rolls-Royce is a historic and innovative brand, designing, building, and servicing critical power systems where safety and reliability are paramount. We promote an inclusive and innovative culture, investing in your growth and career development.

The role involves designing new and modifying existing test rigs, working with multidisciplinary teams, including internal resources, external design partners, and equipment suppliers, to develop design concepts for rigs that deliver test data related to R&T, V&V, component qualification, and through-life performance.

We offer excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and benefits such as bonuses, employee support, and discounts. Our hybrid working model allows flexibility between office, home, or remote locations, with an expected attendance of three days per week at the workplace.

Key responsibilities include generating requirements, planning tasks, applying fluid flow and thermal hydraulic theories, creating P&ID diagrams, sizing pumps, valves, and heat exchangers, developing 1D system flow models, and developing operating philosophies and control system logic.

Ideal candidates will have experience in a regulated industry such as Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Energy, Water, or Nuclear, a degree in mechanical or chemical engineering, and a track record of delivering solutions on time, within budget, and to quality standards. Knowledge of engineering principles, process safety, codes & standards, and experience with 1D flow modeling software (e.g., FloMaster) are desirable.

We are committed to diversity and inclusion, supporting applicants in obtaining Security Check clearance, which is required for working on Rolls-Royce Submarines projects. To qualify, applicants must be UK nationals or dual nationals approved by MoD.
