Our Power & Low Carbon Solutions Practice are looking for an experienced Product Analytics Engineer to join the team. We are excited to be hiring a new Product Analytics Engineer to join our Energy Source analytics platform team. The right candidate will be building the market-leading platform for large energy users to drive decarbonisation decision-making across their power portfolio. Baringa's Energy Source platform: Large energy users are not passive consumers. They are active market participants managing complex portfolios worth tens or hundreds of millions annually. In the last 5 years, demand for our advice, insight, analytics and market data has increasingly come from large energy users. The next wave of the energy transition will depend on the bold decisions that large energy using companies make. Baringa's Energy Source analytics platform provides market-leading analytics and insight for major energy user power positions. It facilitates optimisation and risk management across the entire power position including demand, hedging, long-term contracts and PPAs. Energy Source only investment-grade solutions for energy strategy, execution and risk management.
What you will be doing
- Design and implement components of the calculation engine using Python, ensuring robust and efficient computational logic.
- Plan and manage Quality Assurance (QA) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) processes, including writing test cases, coordinating with users, and ensuring the product meets functional expectations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including UI/UX designers, developers, and energy market specialists, to ensure technical alignment with user needs.
- Document technical decisions and development processes, supporting both internal knowledge transfer and long-term product maintainability.
- Identify technical debt and recommend solutions that balance short-term delivery with long-term scalability.
- Mentor, support and develop other team members to ensure high quality modelling engineering capability is created and maintained within the team.
Your skills and experience
- You have a strong quantitative background in subjects such as mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, etc.
- You thrive in cross-functional teams - including developers, product managers, and non-technical stakeholders, with strong communication skills and ability to translate business needs into technical requirements, and vice versa.
- You are great at problem solving and love tackling challenging problems, breaking them down into manageable development tasks, while maintaining awareness of the overall product and how new features may affect existing systems.
- You have experience developing in Python in a professional context, ideally including work on data processing, modelling, or calculation logic.
- You have working knowledge of SQL, with the ability to write queries and manipulate data as well as design and review effective data models.
- You have a strong understanding of software development fundamentals, including version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, testing practices, and modular code design.
- You have experience working with agile methodologies (e.g. Scrum/Kanban), with an understanding of the key principles that underpin its effective use and are confident writing or contributing to user stories or technical specifications.
- You have a good attention to detail and high standards for accuracy and reliability, and have experience implementing effective QA/UAT processes, including writing test cases, supporting test execution, and bug tracking.
- You have some exposure to the Energy sector, ideally in electricity markets, energy trading, or power system modeling and interest in market structures and contracts.
