Product Development & Test Engineer (Electro-Mechanical)
We are seeking a skilled Product Development & Test Engineer to join our technical R&D team. This role involves leading the design, development, and validation of innovative electro-mechanical products. You’ll be responsible for managing the full development cycle — from concept and testing to compliance and production readiness.
You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams such as Quality, Production, Industrialisation, and Marketing, as well as external suppliers and toolmakers, ensuring that designs meet the highest technical and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and validate new electro-mechanical products.
*
Improve and value-engineer existing product designs.
*
Ensure all designs comply with UK and international standards and relevant directives.
*
Manage type testing, technical files, and documentation in line with ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 standards.
*
Work cross-functionally to ensure practical, cost-effective designs for manufacture.
*
Provide technical input for purchasing, marketing, and production teams.
*
Support testing, reporting, and safety procedures within the test facility.
*
Utilise 2D/3D CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor) for design and simulation.
Skills & Competencies
*
Strong understanding of UK Wiring Regulations and relevant industry standards.
*
Experience in power distribution or cable management product development.
*
Skilled in project management for design and testing programmes.
*
Proficient in CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor – including sheet-metal modelling).
*
Excellent IT skills, including spreadsheets and presentation tools.
*
Effective communicator, able to work within multi-disciplinary teams and with external partners.
*
Self-motivated, organised, and capable of independent work.
*
Willingness to travel within and outside the UK as required.
Desirable Knowledge
*
Understanding of plastic injection moulding, die casting, and materials (metals and polymers).
*
Familiarity with type-testing processes (temperature rise, mechanical loading, glow-wire, etc.).
*
Experience in electrical panel layouts, wiring schematics, and single/three-phase systems.
*
Experience or awareness of ISO 17025 testing environments.
Qualifications
*
Degree or HND in Electrical, Mechanical, or Product Design Engineering (or related discipline).
*
Professional membership (e.g. IET, IMechE) is advantageous
