Production Support Engineer role at Man Group

Technology powers everything we do at Man Group. Our teams ensure the firm has a robust tech platform that facilitates alpha generation, portfolio management, trade execution, operations, compliance, risk management and accounting, as well as providing firm-wide end user collaboration tools. We invest in our people, hardware, data and platform technology. This is a place where open, forward-thinking, collaborative technology meets both quantitative and discretionary investment management.

The Role

We are looking for a Production Support Engineer with 2-5 years of experience working on an Order Management system or in a Trade Support function to join our OMS Support team. The OMS Support team provides 1st and 2nd line application support across Order Management systems, covering both systematic and discretionary order flow. Each day provides the opportunity to work with investment professionals, traders, operations, and technologists to ensure we can efficiently realise alpha across the markets we trade.

We are undertaking a strategic renewal of our Order Management systems and it is a great time to be part of the team with the opportunity to influence how we can improve the experience for our investment professionals.

Role Responsibilities

  • Providing technical and business support to investment professionals, execution traders and support functions. This includes quick resolutions to app issues and driving stability and improvements to help the business succeed
  • 1st and 2nd level application support for business systems with escalation to software development, infrastructure teams, end users or third parties as appropriate
  • Incident and problem management, including input to post-incident reviews and resolution of follow-up tasks with timely, high-standard stakeholder communication
  • Recording and managing issues using Zendesk and following through to successful resolution
  • Identifying recurring issues that require development effort and escalating/prioritising those items
  • Monitoring hardware, applications and environmental conditions of our Order Management systems using tools such as OpsGenie and CheckMK (Nagios)
  • Managing production releases of our Order Management systems
  • Participating in Disaster Recovery planning, updating run books and DR tests
  • Ensuring procedures and policies are up to date in the knowledge base for use by the team
  • Writing SQL scripts to resolve user queries, testing and scheduling weeknight or weekend releases
  • Providing on-call or out-of-hours support as required

Required skills and experience

  • 2+ years’ experience providing business and technical application support for a financial services institution
  • Ability to communicate accurately and effectively in both written and verbal form
  • Strong desire to develop and deliver
  • Logical and analytical approach to problem solving
  • Ability to organise and deliver on complex and time-sensitive workloads

Advantageous skills and experience

  • Experience working with Front Office teams such as Portfolio Managers or Traders
  • Interest in understanding how people work and how it makes them efficient in their role
  • Ability to quickly gain understanding and expertise in new technologies, systems and business processes
  • Familiarity with FIX Protocol
  • Good understanding of the trade lifecycle for FICC and equities
