Job Title: Project Design Engineer (Tooling, Lifting & Handling) - Submarines

Type: Full-time, Derby/Hybrid (minimum 3 days per week in the office)

An exciting opportunity is available for a Project Design Engineer with strong project management and supplier management expertise. This role is within our Services Delivery Business Unit (DBU) in Submarines, Derby. The DBU is responsible for delivering projects related to submarine build, in-service support, and infrastructure upgrades.

The Project Design Engineer will support the design, manufacture, and validation of lifting, handling, storage, and tooling solutions for nuclear and non-nuclear products and systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of engineering work packages through our design supply chain.
• Serve as the key engineering interface between customers, internal teams, and suppliers.
• Develop requirements and define work scopes for supply chain delivery.
• Influence supplier selection and provide technical support and oversight.
• Maintain relationships with internal customers and supply chain partners.
• Manage high-level plans and progress reporting.
• Support manufacturing queries related to design.

Candidate Profile

• Broad understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including stress calculations.
• Experience in a safety-critical environment (Nuclear, Rail, Oil & Gas, Petrochem, Machinery).
• Knowledge of design and governance processes.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Degree qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
