Project Engineer – High Voltage Operations & Maintenance
Location: Midlands / Remote
Salary: IRO £50,000 per annum
I’m currently supporting a client who is looking to appoint a Project Engineer to strengthen their Operations and Maintenance team in the Midlands. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of high voltage (HV) projects, covering everything from planning and delivery through to completion.
The position is hands-on and varied, involving HV switching at 11kV and 33kV, managing small remedial works, and coordinating teams to deliver on safety, quality, and performance standards.
This role would suit an experienced Electrical Engineer or Senior Authorised Person (SAP) who thrives in project environments and enjoys combining technical expertise with client-facing responsibilities.
What You’ll Be Doing as a Project Engineer
- Inspecting and maintaining LV/HV substation equipment.
- Carrying out protection testing and reporting results.
- Undertaking HV/LV jointing, including specialist cable terminations.
- Fault finding and troubleshooting across electrical systems.
- Installing and commissioning switchgear and transformers.
- Testing earthing systems and associated equipment.
- Preparing remedial works quotations and presenting solutions.
- Producing detailed work packages, job instructions, and RAMS.
- Coordinating technicians, craftspeople, and subcontractors.
- Allocating project resources effectively to meet targets.
- Liaising with clients and stakeholders to manage expectations.
- Ensuring projects comply with safety regulations and system performance requirements.
- Planning and executing HV switching, isolation, and earthing up to 33kV.
- Issuing permits and safety documentation in line with rules and procedures.
- Testing installations, analysing data, and producing technical reports.
Experience necessary as a Project Engineer in this role
- Senior Authorised Person (SAP) up to and including 33kV.
- HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, ideally with a focus on Power Distribution.
- Background in private networks and/or the renewable energy sector.
- Strong knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation.
- GWO certifications for onshore wind farm work.
- Emergency First Aid & Manual Handling certifications.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Confident IT skills to support project delivery.
