Overview

Project Engineer – Overhead Lines (OHL), Ipswich. Part of Balfour Beatty’s Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team on the BTNO project. Contract type: Full-time. Location: Ipswich. This role works with the Project Manager/Project Director and wider delivery team to support planning, engineering, and execution of this infrastructure programme.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead and attend project reviews / project meetings
  • Maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries, etc.)
  • Prepare internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders
  • Provide information to enable informed, cost-effective decisions in line with the overall strategy
  • Support scope and package assignment for coordinated delivery
  • Specify, understand, develop and implement technical information and drawings into delivery
  • Understand and specify plant and equipment requirements
  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm and stay up to date with changes in legislation
  • Be responsible for the safety and welfare of the general public, employees and supply chain
  • Carry out Safety & Environmental Tours and promote safety initiatives
  • Conduct and support Accident/Incident Investigations
  • Monitor effectiveness of the H&S Management System and implement improvements
  • Write and review RAMS and approve subcontractor RAMS
  • Identify, raise and report risks and hazards
  • Ensure sufficiency and competency of the workforce
  • Understand, control and issue safety documentation
  • Complete audits
  • Set people to work
  • Assist the Project Manager to lead risk/opportunity reviews, present the Risk Register and recommend/implement changes
  • Log and escalate issues that cannot be resolved at delegated level of authority
  • Manage subcontractors, including monitoring attendance and progress, providing instruction and support as necessary to meet contractual arrangements
  • Ensure procurement plans align with the overall project plans, and that materials/resources/supply chain activities are delivered
  • Follow targets/KPIs in line with project objectives and monitor performance
  • Ensure assurance activities (audits) are undertaken and take action on findings
  • Contribute to workshops on continuous improvement to meet deadlines
  • Develop, implement and periodically update resource-loaded schedules
  • Encourage adoption of productivity and project controls techniques
  • Monitor progress and implement Short Interval Control processes
  • Ensure operational milestones reflect the master schedule and customer expectations
  • Develop and update resource allocation plans and raise appropriate requests

What we're looking for

The Following Qualities/experience Are Desirable

  • An organised, innovative and creative Project Engineer with knowledge and experience in a relevant field
  • Experience on projects and proficiency in commercial/project management communications
  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work
  • Experience in managing risks and change processes through solutions-based problem solving
  • Good interpersonal skills to develop relationships at all levels and the ability to negotiate and influence
  • Ability to discuss ideas with confidence and communicate concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Awareness and promotion of diversity and inclusion
  • Resilience and determination to succeed
  • Proactively develop others, including junior team members
  • Identify and drive personal development
  • Proficient on O365

The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:

  • Formal qualification in construction/engineering or equivalent industry experience
  • Hold or aim to obtain APM PFQ/PMQ
  • CSCS and SMSTS or equivalent
