The Opportunity
Hitachi Energy is hiring a Lead Project Engineer/Project Manager, Engineering to join the team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about applications engineering, with an eye for detail, capable of preparing documentation and diagrams. The successful candidate will coordinate and support the design team during project design and execution phases, and assist the tendering team to ensure safe, robust, and optimal designs and documentation are produced.
Note: This position has a hybrid work model (2/3 days working from our central Birmingham office). We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role.
How you'll make an impact
- Coordinate the design team across all disciplines.
- Collaborate with project management on engineering budgets, providing forecasted costs and justifications for expenditure changes.
- Manage the programme and interface with planning engineers for design timelines.
- Provide forecasts for completion and resource planning.
- Approve documentation in line with contractual requirements.
- Coordinate and chair design and hazard reviews.
- Identify and manage risks across functions, evaluate opportunities, and strategize mitigation.
- Support the Project Manager in risk and opportunity assessments and actions.
- Act as Principal Designer Representative on projects.
- Work with customers to shape solutions, gather feedback, and drive improvements.
- Oversee subcontract creation and management, including supply chain coordination.
Your background
- At least 5 years of experience in the electricity supply industry.
- Knowledge of Transmission or Distribution practices (400kV to 11kV).
- HNC/HND in electrical engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Strong teamwork, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Commercial acumen.
- Understanding of Distribution Network Operator / National Grid standards and drawing practices.
