Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.
The Role:
We are seeking a technically skilled and forward-thinking
Propulsion Software Calibration & Controls Engineer
to lead the development, calibration, and system-level design of propulsion control features for electrified and hybrid vehicles. This role is central to delivering refined drivability, energy efficiency, and seamless integration of propulsion components through advanced software controls and calibration strategies.
You will work across domains including torque management, regenerative braking, thermal coordination, and energy optimizationtranslating system-level requirements into robust, production-ready control features.
Area of Responsibility
Feature System Design
Define and architect propulsion control features including torque management, pedal mapping, regenerative braking, thermal management and energy flow coordination
Create and develop features and capabilities for JLR propulsion systems using model-based system engineering approaches
Develop system artifacts including MBSE models, use case analysis, decision trees, and requirements specifications
Ensure feature compatibility across hybrid architectures (HEV, PHEV, BEV) and driving modes
Calibration & Integration
Calibrate propulsion control features to meet performance, efficiency, NVH, and drivability targets
Conduct vehicle-level testing and tuning across diverse environments and use cases
Utilize tools such as ETAS INCA, Vector CANape, and CANalyzer for calibration and diagnostics
Support software flashing, fault debugging, and validation during prototype and production phases
Requirements & Compliance
Author and manage system and software requirements using tools like DOORS or Polarion
Ensure traceability between requirements, implementation, and validation artifacts
Support compliance with safety and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 26262, UNECE R85/R101)
Document calibration strategies, feature specifications, and validation reports
Knowledge / Experience
Bachelors or Masters degree in Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
Strong experience in propulsion controls, software calibration, or vehicle systems engineering
Strong proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, embedded C, and calibration tools (INCA, CANape)
Solid understanding of hybrid/electric propulsion systems, torque coordination, and energy management
Experience with vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay)
Excellent analytical, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with VSC (Vehicle Supervisory Controller) architecture and multi-domain feature integration
Experience with EV/Hybrid powertrain control and calibration in an automotive environment.
Familiarity with AUTOSAR, ISO 26262, and model-based development workflows
Exposure to HIL/SIL platforms and automated test environments
Knowledge of thermal systems, battery management, and driver mode logic
Certification in functional safety or software quality (e.g., TV, ISTQB)
